Born: 1976 in Wichita, KS I spent most of my childhood playing sports and occasionally drawing. My life changed in 1995 though, during my senior year at Owatonna High School in Minnesota. It was then and there I started painting. By the following year it had become my obsession. I attended college for one year, studying Landscape Design at South Dakota State, in Brookings, but dropped out to focus completely on painting. I'm self taught, learning and improving through experience and observation. Over the past few years I've explored many styles and techniques. From impressionistic, to applying thick, sculptural paint, to flat layered washes. My paintings come from my imagination, drawing from life, photos, or they can be non-objective. One thing I am not as a painter is consistent. I hop from style to style depending on my mood. I want to master as many techniques as I can so I can say anything I feel through my paintings. To me there is nothing more exciting than a painting and there are endless possibilities and subjects. Some of my favorite subjects are music and animals. I like it when a painting enlivens numerous senses in the viewer. A painting of a guitar you can almost hear playing, for example. Or a big painting of an elephant you can almost smell. These are the things I believe prompt memories and emotions in the viewer. I also like more abstractly, non-objective paintings that can be interpreted many ways. Might sound overly dramatic, but like I said, to me nothing is more exciting than a painting. I'm currently living and painting in Vermont, happy to be sharing a home with my love Amy, our dog Reb, and our cat Maya.
